Gun Suicides: who are the victims?

In the ongoing debate about gun violence and safety, mass homicides get national attention. Yet, signifcantly more people commit suicides with guns than are murdered by one. In 2010, 19,392 people killed themselves with a firearm while 11,078 people were victims of homicide, according to theĀ Centers for Disease Control, which tracks detailed data on fatal injuries.

Where are the English Language Learners?

As New York City prepares to welcome a new mayor, over 150,000 English Language Learner (ELL) students and their parents hope the new administration means improvements to their schools. New York City has the largest school system with the second highest number of English Language learners in the nation. Yet, less than half of all ELLs graduate from high school, signifcantly less than the 67.5% average graduation rate.
